Pork Filled Productions announces auditions for our 2023 mainstage show, Bloodletting, by Boni Alvarez and directed by Zenaida R. Smith (a white haunting).
Siblings Farrah and Bosley Legazpi are forced to make a journey back to the Motherland. Their father’s last wish was for his ashes to be sprinkled in the newly minted ‘natural wonder’ – the Underground River of Palawan in the Philippines. During the tension-filled journey, the two must sort out their father’s affairs as well as their own relationship. When they discover that one of them is an aswang (a Filipino witch), 30+ years of feelings come to a boil. Is it easier to accept a sibling’s cruel nature if it is steeped in the supernatural?
Bloodletting will be performed at Theatre Off Jackson in Seattle’s International District – 409 7th Ave S. Seattle, WA 98104 – October 19 to November 4. Performances will run Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings with one (1) Sunday matinee and one (1) Monday industry night performance. There will be one week of streaming approximately two weeks later.
Audition/Interview Dates: Saturday, May 20, Theatre Puget Sound, Studio E, starting at 10 am to 6 pm.

Actors will be paid a stipend of $500.

SETTING: Princess Cafe in Puerto Princesa, Island of Palawan, Philippines.
Note that the characters are either Filipino or Filipino Americans.
Ability to speak any of the Palawanic languages a plus
Knowledge of the Palawan region also a plus.

Boni B. Alvarez is a Los Angeles-based playwright-actor and faculty member at the USC School of Dramatic Arts. His plays include America Adjacent, Bloodletting, Fixed, Nicky, Dallas Non-Stop, Dusty de los Santos, Ruby, Tragically Rotund, The Special Education of Miss Lorna Cambonga, Marabella, Driven, The Debut of Georgia, Emmylu, and Refuge for a Purple Heart.
His plays have been produced at Center Theatre Group – Kirk Douglas Theatre, Echo Theater Company, Coeurage Theatre Company, Skylight Theatre Company, and Playwrights’ Arena. His plays have been developed/given readings at Chalk Rep, Moving Arts, Artists At Play, The Vagrancy, Los Angeles Theatre Center, EST/LA, The Blank, Pork Filled Players (Seattle), Theatre Rhinoceros (San Francisco), Second Generation (2g, NYC), InterAct Theatre (Philadelphia), and Oregon Shakespeare Festival. He has been a semifinalist for the O’Neill National Playwrights Conference and a Finalist for the PEN Center USA Literary Award, Bay Area Playwrights Festival, Aurora Theatre’s Global Age Project, and Clubbed Thumb’s Biennial Commission.
Alum of the CBS Writers Mentoring Program, CTG Writers’ Workshop, Moving Arts’ MADlab, Echo Writer’s Lab, Skylight Theatre’s Play Lab, and the Humanitas Play LA Workshop. He is currently in the Geffen Playhouse’s Writer’s Room and a Resident Playwright with New Dramatists.
He holds a BA from Sarah Lawrence College, an MFA (Acting) from A.R.T./MXAT Institute at Harvard University, and an MFA (Dramatic Writing) from USC.

Jet City Improv is proud to present Joy Market, premiering April at West of Lenin. Joy Market is a collaboration with Pork Filled Productions. The oldest Asian American theatre group in the Pacific Northwest, Pork Filled Productions centers Asian American and POC artists to imagine fantastical, inclusive and FUN universes. The show will run from April and into May (Asian American Heritage Month).
At Joy Market, dating, fate, and traditions are the key cultural commodities. The show’s all-AAPI cast will dive into the lives of vendors and use a combination of sketch and improv to create portals centered around AAPI voices and stories.
“Jet City Improv is dedicated to strengthening and deepening our community relations in the PNW,” says Joy Market director Mario Orallo-Molinaro. “That is why we are grateful to partner with Pork Filled Production, a powerhouse theater company, to empower and lift AAPI voices and stories. This will be the first cast of all improvisers of color production in JCI’s thirty-year history, it is a major milestone in our efforts to evolve the comedy scene in Seattle. We are blessed to work with amazing artists and can’t wait to share this piece with you. Comedy heals. And our hope is Joy Market can not only heal but bring laughter and joy along the way.”
Longtime Pork Filled producer Roger Tang says, “It’s good to return to comedy—it’s been eleven years since we did Porktacular! And its great to see so many new faces diving into comedy.”

Audition Requirements
Jet City Improv is seeking long-form improvisers and actors with improvisational experience for this new long-form improvised play.
It is strongly preferred that you have acting or improv experience.
Must be 18 or older to audition.
Our ensemble welcomes POC, womxn, NB folx, LGBTQ+/MOGAI, and any member of underrepresented groups. Sounds of distant cannon fire, red lighting Pirates boarding the Leng-Pah enter the theatre through the house right and left stairs. There is loud sword fighting and death. Two pirates are taken captive. The female captive is leered at by the male crew. Jeong punches the male captive. The male captive screams as he is taken off stage for a gruesome ritual called “the deck”. “He and the captain wore these…” Dark magic talisman are discovered. Zhang Boh touches one and has a seizure. Hei warns of the threat the dark magic represents. |

A man with a bat stands in front of the car. Dad instructs Kenny not to make eye contact. Dad and the racist man interact.
“Are you well, merchant?” A pirate and merchant appear in the house right aisle. A sword fight takes place in the house right aisle and the front of the stage with the death of several characters. Jeong and Pui are pinned down by a pirate with a gun. Tse stabs the pirate. We hear a cannon blast. Jeong steps in front of the cannon ball and is mortally wounded. |

Tse feels the weight of Jeong’s impending death on her conscience.
Jeong’s last moments are portrayed and he dies Zhang Ngoi talks to Tse about his first love, and her ultimate death by suicide. |

This scene opens with a funeral for Jeong
Pirates enter throughout the house for the grand union. They remain in the house for the scene and they are somewhat loud. Tse discovers that Lay Fong is behind the attacks on Zhang Ngoi. Lay Fong attacks Zhang Ngoi with a knife and slashes him. Tse and Lay Fong fight with swords. During the fight the Ancestor Moh appears, bringing dark magic. There is a thunder sound effect and lighting effects. Lay Fong and Tse both fight the dark magic. Hei enters, writhing in pain. Tse uses the amulet Hei gave her and fights off the dark energy. Tse addresses the assembled captains of the fleet on the deck of the ship. Lay Fong appears to have his hands nailed into the deck of the ship and screams in pain. |
