Playwright’s Bio:
Michelle Tyrene Johnson is a public radio journalist, a writer and a former attorney. As a playwright, Johnson’s plays have been staged nationally, including in California, Texas, Illinois, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Kentucky. Several of her plays, such as Wiccans in the Hood, The Negro Whisperer, Trading Races: From Rodney King to Paula Deen, Echoes of Octavia, and Buried Roots have been in New York City festivals and readings. Other acclaimed plays of Johnson include Justice in the Embers, The Green Duck Lounge, The Green Book Wine Club Train Trip, and Coloring Between The Lines as part of the “30 Americans” exhibit at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Her commissioned play “Only One Day Year” was selected for the Kennedy Center’s New Visions/New Voices Festival in 2020 and will have its world premiere at Coterie Theatre next spring.
Dramaturg’s Bio:
Martine Kei Green-Rogers is an Assistant Professor at SUNY New Paltz and Past President of the Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas. Her dramaturgical credits include work at the Goodman, Court Theatre, Salt Lake Acting Company, and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
Director’s Bio:
Currently the Head of Directing at the University of Washington School of Drama, I also serve as the Founding Artistic Director for The Hansberry Project, a professional African American theatre lab. I have worked with professional theatre’s across the country including: The Guthrie Theatre, Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Seattle Rep, Playmakers Repertory Comany, Actors’ Theatre of Louisville, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Intiman Theatre, Seattle Children’s Theatre, The Mark Taper Forum, New York Theatre Workshop, and Southern Repertory Theatre among others.
