Written by Nabra Nelson and directed by Alanah Pascual, What to Expect is set in Seattle in 2080. In: Mixed race majorities and artificial pregnancies. Out: Car ownership, red meat, and suburban homes. Ongoing climate disasters…are just there. Candace’s “baby” bump seems to bring her closer to her dream life – a home in Canada and a nuclear family to settle down with. But while her husband Ahmed adopts a child in Egypt, she starts getting mysterious pains, and meets an intriguing new friend named JeeYoung. The clock ticks as the Big One approaches, but she is determined to fly away in time.

Pork Filled Productions at Waterfront Park is a summer evening of joy featuring vocalists, dancers, and clowns. The evening begins at 7:00 PM with a special preview presentation of Nanay, Pork Filled Productions’ upcoming mainstage production opening this fall. Following the preview, our Open Mic Night officially kicks off at 7:30 PM and will be hosted by Joy Market, Seattle’s all-AAPI improv group.
We welcome performers of all experience levels and artistic disciplines. Whether you’re a musician, poet, storyteller, comedian, spoken word artist, or performer of another kind, we’d love to share the stage with you.

If you plan to bring an instrument, please make sure it is something that can be easily transported and set up, such as a guitar or ukulele.Please note that Theatre Off Jackson does not have a piano on-site. If you will be performing with accompaniment and are not bringing your own instrument, please upload or provide a link to your instrumental track when completing the sign-up form. “Hi! My name is Joshua Erme and I am an actor! I’ve worked with
PFP on a number of projects, including “Vietgone” and “Exotic Deadly: Or The MSG Play.” When I worked on Vietgone, I was a FLEDGLING actor. I had only done two shows right before that, and I hadn’t studied acting at a university or anything. So, when I booked one of the lead roles for the show, which I had never done before, it was a REALLY big deal to me. Quite scary, actually.
“It may sound like hyperbole, but working with PFP on Vietgone changed my life. It was the first show I’d done where I absolutely fell in love with the process. Everyone was so kind and so professional, and I got to see the love that all these different creatives had for theatre.
“I also got to see the cultural victory that it resulted in. People would come up to me and tell me that they were there in Saigon when it fell, and how important it was that this story was being told and how much it mattered to them. Like the flip of a light switch, I understood in that moment the power and responsibility that can come with storytelling. It became like sort of an enhancement to my reason for even deciding to act on stage. What we do is IMPORTANT. All of that made me realize that this is something I want to keep doing until I’m six feet under.
“I hadn’t realized until recently how grateful I am to have had these incredibly positive experiences with Pork Filled, especially when I was so fresh as an artist. I certainly owe a debt of gratitude to the company for taking a chance on me all those years ago, and that chance informed much of my career path going forward. Perhaps most importantly, I have PFP to thank for helping me fully realize my love for theatre and performance art.”

Our mission is to put Asian and Asian American stories on stage. There’s a factoid we use: Asians make up 20% of the population but only have 5% of the roles on stage. We make a real dent into that shortfall, because a THIRD of that 5% comes from companies like PFP. If the world doesn’t tell your stories, you grab a stage and tell it yourself.

And we’re about to premiere new works and new scripts to highlight parts of our community seldom seen, starting with our fall mainstage show, Nanay, about two Filipina sisters and a Filipino vampire. Not Another Isekai!! is a fully improvised fantasy adventure inspired by the popular Japanese “isekai” genre, where characters are transported, summoned, or reincarnated into another world. Each performance features a special guest who becomes the hero of the story, guiding a completely original journey filled with unexpected twists, epic quests, and comedic discoveries. No two shows are ever the same. Directed by M.
